My closest and dearest friend is Italian and I look forward to frequent holidays in this wonderful country. My first visit was in 1963, when I was eight years old with my favourite uncle and aunt to a holiday resort on the Italian riviera.

Even though I was born in the Netherlands, I have always thought of myself as a BeNeLux Citizen, because the first Customs Union agreement dates back to 1944, when the Belgian, Netherlands and Luxembourg governments were in exile in London.
